Brock ‘A Community With a Heart,’ is a township named for General Sir Isaac Brock, a soldier
shot by American troops, while leading his soldiers into battle, trying to prevent the Americans
from establishing a landing at Queenstown Heights during the historic War of 1812. Located on
the East shore of Lake Simcoe the town of Brock is situated approximately one hour northeast of
the city of Toronto and falls within the Regional Municipality of Durham.
The municipality was created as a result of the proclamation of the Regional Municipality of
Durham Act of 1973, which in turn, amalgamated the former townships of Brock and Thorah,
the village of Beaverton, the Village of Cannington and the closure of the Police Village of
Sunderland. As such, key services provided within the municipality are offered and maintained
by the Region of Durham, some of which include, but are not limited to: water and sewage,
social services, garbage collection and recycling.
The municipality, in which the town of Brock is a member, presents itself in three distinct urban
areas, several villages and an abundance of beautiful and serene countryside. Agriculture acts
as the largest employer in the town of Brock, however, there is also a full range of commercial
and industrial business enterprises located within the urban areas of Beaverton, Cannington and
Sunderland. Furthermore, the Township’s locations on Lake Simcoe as well as along the Trent-

months.
