The township of King is situated in the York Region just north of Toronto, within the
Greater Toronto Area of Ontario and has a population of 19,487 as of 2006. Though it may
have a relatively modest population, the town of King is quickly coming to be known as an
exceptional destination in which to work and live.
King features a picturesque countryside, of which the rolling hills of the Oak Ridges
Moraine make up the predominant geographical feature. Nestled in amongst this most scenic
physical element lies the Holland Marsh, considered to be Ontario’s ?vegetable basket,?
due to its rich soils which make for ideal agricultural opportunities.
Though King Township is primarily rural in nature, most of its residents are concentrated in
the communities of King City, Nobleton and Schomberg. Here, residents can benefit from a wide
array of leisurely activities at one of the Townships rich variety of parks, recreation and cultural
facilities, which include: three arenas; Cold Creek Conservation Area; Centennial Mountain
Biking Park, as well as the King Township Museum, Community Halls and numerous public
libraries. Add to this exquisite dining opportunities, world-class golf courses and cycling paths
and one can see that the Town of King offers its residents a quality of life that goes unmatched.
One might even say that life in King is fit for a King.
When it comes to development, the Township of King places high emphasis on allowing
for prosperity to occur, but not at the expense of environmental sustainability. As such, the
environment plays an integral role in determining the methods of construction and maintenance
of the Town’s infrastructure. To balance the Township’s infrastructural needs with
its environmental programs, King has commenced phased water and sewage servicing in order to
support both existing and future development.
To accommodate for growth, King is guided by five key principles. Such factors include: the
strong desire to have limited planned growth with design guidelines; to maintain and strengthen
independence; celebrate its heritage; to be responsive and accessible to its citizens; and to
continue to be professional, fiscally responsible administrators. These are all attributes that are
echoed by the residents of King.
