Lincoln is a town located between the southern shore of Lake Ontario and the Niagara
Escarpment. A municipal corporation created by the Legislature of the Province of Ontario
through the amalgamation of the Town of Beamsville with the Township of Clinton, and half
of the Township of Louth, the Town of Lincoln officially came into existence on January 1,
1970. As of 2006, the Town of Lincoln has a population of 21,722, with its administrative and
commercial center situated in the nearby community of Beamsville.
Surrounded by acres upon acres of vineyards and orchards, Lincoln remains a quaint country
locale, still within an easy drive from either Toronto or Buffalo. Positioned along the Queen
Elizabeth Way in the Niagara Region, Lincoln is perfectly situated within the major populated
areas of central Canada and near the eastern United States. Its small towns and villages, filled
with wineries, antique shops, historical sites and natural attractions, make Lincoln a unique place
to live, work, and call home.
The dominant feature of Lincoln is the Niagara Escarpment, an awe inspiring geological
feature, dividing the Town into two areas. Below the escarpment, the land is fit for a wide range
of uses with gentle rolling land and well-drained soils providing a number of excellent areas for
tender fruit and wines. Above the escarpment, the land is predominantly used for a variety of
agricultural purposes and provides picturesque beauty.
With a moderate climate, mild winters and rich, fertile soils, it’s no wonder why
Lincoln’s economy receives a large push from the variety of agricultural operations
in the area. The area is known across Canada for its orchards, vineyards, wineries as well as
the restaurants that feature local produce and wines. There is also an abundance of fruit crops
grown in Lincoln such as: cherries, peaches, apples and pears. Add to this, the serene beauty of
the areas and Lincoln has also emerged as a growing tourist destination in the summer months,
catering largely to visitors from the City of Toronto.
