Mississauga, incorporated in 1974, is a city in Southern Ontario, which is located in the
Regional Municipality of Peel, in the western part of the Greater Toronto Area. Mississauga
is now recognized as Canada’s sixth largest and fastest growing major city with a
population of 729,000 residents, representing an extensive range of cultures from around the
world. Sustained population growth has continued since incorporation, but has stabilized since
the mid-1990s.
Developed as a suburb of Toronto, Mississauga’s growth is largely attributed to
its proximity to that city. However, Mississauga is quite different from most other bedroom
communities as it is able to offer its residents extensive and corporate and industrial employment
opportunities. Mississauga regards itself as ‘A Corporate Capital’ as it boasts close
to 55,000 registered businesses employing more than 425,000 people. The city is also home
to 61 Fortune 500 Canadian of major divisional head offices as well as 50 Fortune Global 500
Canadian headquarters.
But while there is plenty of industrial and corporate commercial activity, fuelling
Mississauga’s rich economy, there is also an abundance of greenscape available for both
residents and visitors to enjoy, amongst a host of other healthy active living choices. Mississauga
boasts more than 480 parks and 23 major trail systems, including part of a 780 kilometer
waterfront trail running from Niagara-on-the-Lake to the Quebec border. There is also a plethora
of family-oriented sports, leisure and arts facilities in Mississauga, with 11 community centres
and a vibrant downtown city centre that also includes major retain, office, entertainment and
condo living.
If Mississauga living wasn‘t attractive enough, the city has also been recognised as
the safest city in Canada, eight years in a row.
In a city as vibrant and busy as Mississauga, there are always residents parting ways, making
