Thornhill is a community in the Greater Toronto Area of Southern Ontario located on the
northern border of the city of Toronto. Once designated a municipal village, Thronhill is now a
community with a postal designation geographically split into two municipalities, along Young
Street. To the west of young street lies the city of Vaughn, while to the east is the town of
Markham. According to the Census of 2001, the population of Thornhill-Vaughn had reached
56,361, while that of Thornhill-Markham was slightly lower with a population of 47,333.
Due to its close proximity to the city of Toronto, Thronhill has seen its population growth
continually rise, since the 1960s and 70s. This period saw large housing developments,
particularly in the 1980s. Since that time growth has continued apace, with other amenities having
been added, such as: the Thronhill Town Centre; The Promenade Shopping Centre; increasing
numbers of condominium buildings as well as stand-alone retail plazas.
Amidst continued growth, Thornhill has a lot to offer those who choose to live and/or work
